Flamingos’ Usani looks beyond Colombia

After helping Flamingos to beat one of the title favourites, the United States in the quarter-finals of the
ongoing FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in India, forward Miracle Usani says she and her teammates have what it takes to win the championship.

Despite being the underdogs in the game against their American opponents, the Flamingos proved pundits by winning the encounter 4-3 on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final clash against Colombia, Usani said they are unfazed about their opponents and are not feeling any pressure going into the game.

“We’re not under pressure because we believe in ourselves and the team,” Usani declared. We’ve what it takes to play in the final and even bring the trophy to Nigeria,” she told Brila fm from India.

Flamingos’ best outing in the champion- ship was a quarter-final finish in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Meanwhile, ahead of the semi-final game, the Flamingos have returned to Goa venue of the match.

The Flamingos started their campaign in the World Cup in Goa where they played the opening group match against Germany and the second against New Zealand.

They travelled to Mumbai the capital of India for the quarter-final match against the United States which they won via a penalty shoot-out.

The team late on Saturday evening returned to Goa where they will confront Colombia in the semi-final.

Colombia had on Saturday defeated Tanzania 3-0 to set up a titanic clash against Nigeria. The game is slated for Fatorda Stadium
