The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), has said that thousands of people affected by the flood disaster require emergency assistance.
Dr Mohammed Suleiman, Executive Secretary of the Agency, stated this at the inauguration of a three-day capacity building workshop on emergency and security awareness, on Monday in Yola.
The training was organized by the Agency.
Sulaiman said the state government had earlier directed the agency to give emergency assistance to the flood-affected communities across the state.
“In August; we recorded flash floods in 15 of the 21 local government areas of the state, with a total of seven deaths and thousands of people affected.
“However, thousands of the flood victims are yet to be reached due to the meager resources earlier approved by the state government and we are waiting for more assistance,” he said.
According to him, the exercise is designed to boost the capacity building of the agency’s staff on how to respond and handle any disaster properly.
Sulaiman said that no fewer than 30 workers drawn from the agency and other relevant ministries were participating in the exercise.
He highlighted the major disasters facing the state to include insurgency, farmers/pastorals clashes, kidnapping, flood and fire outbreaks.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, who inaugurated the workshop, said the training exercise came at the right time.

Fintiri, represented by Mr. Bello Hamman-Doran, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, said that the state was facing a flood disaster.
“Staff capacity building is the backbone of effective service delivery of any organization because it is hard for any organization to succeed without the regular training of its personnel.
“Therefore, our administration will place much emphasis on staff training for effective service delivery to the people of the state,” Fintiri said.
The three-day training exercise focused on fire prevention, mitigation, and management, search and rescue, security awareness among others.
