A cross-section of football enthusiasts in Enugu on Tuesday said they were disappointed with the Super Eagles’ goalless draw with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in an international friendly.
The Super Eagles played out a goalless draw with the Cameroonians in their second friendly match, after losing 0-1 on Friday.
The football enthusiasts said the team did not play with the `” Nigerian spirit” in the match with Cameroon at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt on the outskirts of Vienna in Austria.
Anistars Izuikem, the owner of Star Plus FC of Ngwo, observed that the team did not play as a unit.
“I thought they would have prevented Friday’s defeat to ensure that they have an upper hand over Cameroon.
“Although we lost the first game and drew today, one of the positives of the match is that we have some players who can be drafted into the Super Eagles in future.
“We lost the first game not because we do not have good players, but that players have not been playing together for long.
“Let us not forget that some of the regulars withdrew before the first match and there was little improvement in the second leg,” he said.
Similarly, Lofty Uche, the coach of Golden Stars FC of Obiagu, said the result was not a good one as it would belittle Nigeria before other footballing nations.

“The results of the two friendly matches against Cameroun are not a good one and, with it, we cannot go anywhere in continental football.
“We are losing that fear factor the country is known for in the football community and this will give other countries the courage against Nigeria in football competitions,” he said.
Another enthusiast, Blaise Ude, advised the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, to recruit more talented players before upcoming competitive matches.
Ude, who is the Enugu State Boxing Coach, said the Eagles stooped low to their opponents by not revenging the first match 0-1 loss.
He said Nigeria has a lot of good players all over the world and, with the best legs, could beat any team in the world.
“Although, some players did not honor the match, that is however not an excuse for us to lose to Cameroon.
“The Eagles are supposed to be rubbing shoulders with European teams in football, considering how football is being worshipped in the country,” Ude said.
