A former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion, Bray Wyatt, died on Thursday, the company announced.
He was 36 years old.
Wyatt, whose real name was Windham Rotunda, was the son of WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Mike Rotunda.
On August 19, 2023, it was reported that after battling a life-threatening illness since February, Wyatt was closing in on a return.
X platform users trended “RIP Legend” to honour Wyatt as other wrestlers mourned his death.
Triple H wrote on his X platform, “Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda – also known as Bray Wyatt – unexpectedly passed earlier today. Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time.”
However, Sean Ross, a wrestling reporter, said Wyatt died from a heart attack that resulted from him contracting COVID-19.
