FRSC recovers stolen vehicle in Abuja

A stolen white pick-up vehicle has been recovered in Abuja by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) during an early-morning operation, with the vehicle subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

The vehicle, with registration number YAB 677 XD, was recovered at about 3am on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by the Tow Truck Team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command along the expressway leading to Berger in the Wuye area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The FRSC Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the recovery followed the vigilance of the Corps’ personnel during the operation.

According to him, the officers found the vehicle’s original documents inside it and used a telephone number contained in the documents to contact the purported owner. The owner was subsequently informed that the vehicle had been recovered.

Following the development, the Sector Commander, RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, invited the FCT Police Command to take custody of the vehicle and investigate the circumstances surrounding its theft and recovery.

The vehicle was handed over by the Deputy Corps Commander, Operations, DCC Sabitu Abdu, to CSP Nuhu Usman, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.

The Corps said the incident demonstrated how its road operations could contribute to wider security efforts, particularly through surveillance and the prompt identification of suspicious situations.

It said, “The development further demonstrates the critical role of FRSC personnel beyond conventional traffic management, as the Corps continues to deploy its operational presence, professional vigilance and road surveillance capabilities in support of the broader national security architecture.”

The FRSC maintained that while its primary responsibility remained the prevention of road crashes and promotion of safe road use, the presence of its personnel on major highways enabled them to detect incidents involving the protection of lives and property.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the FCT Sector Command and the Tow Truck Team for their alertness and professionalism.

He also directed that collaboration with the police and other security agencies be strengthened through improved intelligence sharing, rapid response and coordinated operations on the nation’s highways.

The Corps urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious vehicles, activities or incidents to security authorities, stressing that public cooperation remained essential to making the nation’s highways safer and more secure.
