The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will intensify its check on the excesses of some articulated vehicle drivers in Ebonyi.
The Corps Sector Commander in Ebonyi, Mr. Anthony Okore, made the declaration on Friday in Abakaliki while reacting to recent road crashes in the state involving articulated vehicles.
Okore said that most articulated vehicle drivers felt superior to other drivers, a tendency that made them drive recklessly.
“They drive like they own the roads and I commend the efforts of relevant authorities to check various forms of obstructions caused by such drivers on the roads,” he said.
The sector commander said that the command has mapped out several strategies to halt such excesses and ensure that the state was free from road crashes in 2022.
“We will continue enforcing the installation of speed limit devices in such vehicles to reduce overspending which causes these crashes.
“We will also intensify our enlightenment campaigns at various motor parks in the state and appeal to these drivers to realize that life has no duplicate.
“Most of them would yield to good conscience and consider the lives of others and the agony faced by families of road crash victims.
“We will however prosecute recalcitrant ones to serve as different to others,” he said.
Okore urged drivers in the state to adopt the defensive driving approach in 2022 and stop seeing FRSC personnel enforcing safety regulations as enemies.

“They should drive not to kill anyone or to be killed as the FRSC does not take delight in evacuating corpses from roads.
“We are however optimistic of recording a resounding success in checking road crashes in 2022 and therefore solicit the cooperation of all,” he added.
