Major roads in Akure were yesterday blocked by motorists queueing for fuel causing serious traffic gridlock on the roads thereby disrupting the morning rush hour.
The situation became chaotic especially at filling stations selling between N180 and N260 per litre as buyers struggled to buy fuel even putting their lives at risk blocking the Akure – Ondo, Ajure – Ilesa and Akure – Benin Highways.
Security operatives including police and Amotekun corps were in hectic situation trying to clear the roads for easy access.
Fuel Scarcity Bites Harder in Akure
Many filling stations in the Ondo State capital have not been dispensing fuel for weeks now fueling speculations among members of the public that there was no end in sight with the lingering fuel crisis.
On Wednesday,a vehicle and one motorcycle queuing for fuel at an NNPC filling station yesterday caught fire when the station was jam-packed with crowd trying to get fuel.
Motorists were seeing discussed what they went through, from sleeping in their vehicles all through the night or leaving their houses early in the morning to queue.
A commercial taxi driver, Oba Adebayo and Okada rider, Joseph Ojo expressed sadness that government could not resolve the fuel problem since November 2022 even as Election is ahead.
