The initial rising pace of political activities has been slowed down in various parts of Ondo state due to fuel scarcity coupled with a cash crunch facing the nation’s economy following currency swapping.
Despite less than a month to the general election, the usual rallies and public campaigns in the three Senatorial Districts of Ondo Central, North, and South have been slowed down.
A political leader in Akure, Ayo Adewoyin noted that the cost of holding rallies and campaigns is now too bogus compared to what politicians budgeted for.
According to him, it is now a herculean task to get fuel at filling stations even at the high cost of N500 per litre.

He lamented that political rallies have been reduced due to the effect of fuel scarcity and new currency palaver.
Adewoyin said it is now difficult for political parties to finance various activities, especially rallies from ward to ward, local government to local government, and intra-state mobilization because of the cash crunch in the banks and fuel scarcity.
A community leader in Ifira-Akoko, Chief Boboye Ojomo urged the government to find solutions to these perennial problems very soon in order not to serve as an impediment to the coming general elections.
He observed that the situation in the country at present is pathetic, stressing that the masses in the country are mostly at the receiving end.
In a few filling stations that have petrol in Akure, Owo, and Okitipupa, the attendants are selling between N500 and N600 per litre.
Streets are being deserted as a result of scarce vehicles and commercial motorcycles that are charging customers as high as N300 per drop.
