Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour announces death of mother

Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced the death of his mother, Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso).

Rhodes-Vivour made the announcement in a post shared on his X handle on Monday, describing her passing as a painful loss while expressing gratitude to God for what he called a life well lived.

The politician said the family received the news of her passing with “sadness in our hearts” but remained thankful for the life she lived.

“With sadness in our hearts and gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the call to glory of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso),” he wrote.

He paid tribute to his late mother, describing her as a caring wife, devoted mother and grandmother whose life was defined by love and selflessness.

“A loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. The epitome of love. She will be sorely missed. May her beautiful soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement read.

The announcement, signed by Olawale Rhodes-Vivour on behalf of the family, did not disclose the cause of death or her age.

The family, however, said details of her funeral arrangements would be communicated at a later date.

“Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly,” the statement added.

Rhodes-Vivour, who contested the 2023 Lagos State governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party, recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress as part of the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
