Gbajabiamila begs National Assembly workers not to go on strike

......adjourns plenary in honour of two late lawmakers

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila, has appealed to National Assembly workers under the argies of Parliamentary Staff Association, PASAN, not to embark on their planned strike

The Speaker said he was aware of pending issues concerning the union which were been addressed and would be resolved within the week ,and therefore, urged the workers not to go on strike.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to PASAN that their matter is being looked into, and very soon their matter will be resolved. I know there are pending issues, and hopefully, those issues will be resolved this week.”

Honorable Gbajabiamila who also announced adjournment of plenary sessions in the House of Representatives for one week in honor of two late  lawmakers, Honorable Hon. Haruna Maitala and Hon. Suleiman Aliyu Lere, who died during the Easter break, said the adjournment had become necessary to give proper respect to the deceased lawmakers

The Speaker said, “the leadership has deemed it fit to adjourn sitting to Tuesday, next week to give proper respect to the deceased lawmakers.”

“Committees’ works will continue, it is only the plenary that was adjourned” he added.

Speaking on his late colleagues, the Speaker noted, “For  the late Hon. Maitala, “I met with his family on Sunday. His death was particularly painful. He died together with Hon. Gagdi’s legislative aide and his son.

“What is even more painful was that he was going to his son’s wedding the following day. He was particularly close to the Deputy Speaker coming from the same state”.

“Ditto Hon. Lere. The circumstances of his death were very painful. Many of you knew about his struggles for almost two years. We swore him in a couple of weeks ago. It was a very bitter fight. Only for us to hear that he died last week.”

Era of oil over, Gbajabiamila warns

Prayers were however, offered  the House Leader, Rep. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, for the repose of the souls of the deceased lawmakers.

He also announced that the House has fixed Tuesday, next week for a valedictory session for late Hon. Ossy Prestige, who passed on months ago
