Gernot Rohr speaks on players’ status

Super Eagle’s manager Gernot Rohr has lamented that some of the Super Eagles stars in the Premier League are not playing for top clubs but relegation teams.

Rohr Picks Musa, Ekong, Etebo, 21 others To Battle Sierra Leone In Benin City

He said: “I hope that we can find better players but we have already good players.  It’s true that we don’t have players in Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea,”

“Our players are playing in Fulham, West Brom – they are struggling to stay in the Premier League.

“We have fortunately two players in Leicester City and in other big clubs not so much for the moment.

“So we must be humble, they must work, they must come in better clubs and they must prove the quality in the club games.” Rohr explained

“I’m at first very happy that he had a good contract, you know that he is more than 30 already and he has to think about the time after football but he’s still very fit and playing regularly in his new club Al-Shabab, it’s a big club in Saudi Arabia,”

“There’s no reason not to take him in the Super Eagles if he’s doing well. Ahmed Musa was also in Saudi Arabia and he played with us, so there’s no problem.

“The question is does he want to come back? We hope so because he’s an experienced player, we have a young team and he can be very useful to his partners, strikers, to help them to develop, and to come back and score goals with us.

“We are waiting for that but at first he has to play now”.
