Entertainer and musical promoter, Muyiwa Otedola, has said that the entertainment industry has grown Nigeria’s economy over the years, hence, deserves maximum government attention.
Otedola, popularly known as 10dollar and a younger brother to billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, made this known to the Newsmen at the celebration of Nigeria’s 61st Independence in Epe, Lagos State on Friday.
He said that the entertainment industry had in no small measures contributed to the growth of the Nigerian economy through maximization of the huge asset and potential embedded in the industry.
“Nigeria’s government has made money through the sales of artworks, crafts, music, movies, and creativity.
” This shows that the industry is capable of serving the economy, If well utilized, ” he said.
Otedola said that the entertainment industry includes; creativity, arts, crafts, music, and Nollywood.
“The industry is surrounded with enormous potential that can be used to reposition the economy.
“The industry has grown over the years compared to the way it used to be in the past.
“The government needs to give the sector needed attention to revive the economy, “he said.
Otedola said that the government could generate huge revenue from movies, music, arts, crafts, and scriptures to grow the economy, If given the deserved attention.
“Government has been making money through the entertainment industry and can still make more money, If properly regulated, ” he said.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its dwindling economy with time and this could be achieve through the entertainment industry, If the government do the needful for the sector, through exploration and maximization of its potential/assets
