By Ruth Tene Natsa, Abuja

Both Christians and Muslim youths today embarked on the filling of potholes on Kafanchan -Kagoro road as part of their resolve to put aside their differences and contribute their quota towards restoring peace and building confidence between adherents of the two major religions to put an end to recurrence of crisis in the area.

The meeting was facilitated by the Global Peace Foundation, GPF -Nigeria through its Community Volunteers

The group had earlier held a peace meeting with participants drawn from Takad, Kaninkon and Zikpak chiefdoms in attendance.

Speaking at the meeting, the GPF Country Director, Reverend John Joseph Hayab, said the Foundation is an international non-sectarian, non-partisan and nonprofit organization, which promotes an innovative, values-based approach to peacebuilding, guided by the vision of One Family under God.

He commended the Global Peace Foundation Community Volunteers in Jema’a Local Government area for embarking on the project and also taking ownership of the peace process in their communities.

Reverend Hayab recalled that the foundation after the unfortunate incident in Kaninkon Chiefdom in 2016, worked with the people of the Chiefdom to form the volunteer group.

The GPF Country Director however challenged Christians, Muslims and even traditionalists to give their religions and tribes a good name for others to emulate.

In his remarks, the Northern Coordinator, GPF Nigeria, Sheikh Haliru Maraya said the Foundation has been working round the clock to ensure peaceful coexistence between and amongst the people irrespective of their differences.

He said considering the challenges the country was facing, especially the huge financial burden which runs in trillions of naira, the need for people to live in peace with one another cannot be overemphasized.

In a lecture, the Provost, Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Professor Alexander Kure, emphasized the need for people to always have the heart to forgive, embrace and forget who ever wronged them for lasting peace to be achieved.

Earlier, the Coordinator, Global Peace Foundation Community Volunteers in Jema’a Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Machu, said the volunteer group which earlier started in only Kaninkon Chiefdom, has now spread to all nook and crannies of Jema’a Local Government Area and is also being replicated in other chiefdoms across Southern Kaduna.
