Good vibes inspire me, Nigeria has opportunities – Adams

BMX Street riders Courage Adams, born in Nigeria, but raised in Spain, had a big dream to reach heights and expend the opportunity to help people. In this interview with AKANBI QUADRI, he speaks on sundry issues, professional and personal. Excerpt

What part of Nigeria are you from?
I was born in Edo State, in Benin City, precisely.

How long have you been dreaming of doing these professionally?

I have been doing these professionally for almost ten years, been riding for 15 years. I started when I was a kid. Riding is something that makes me really happy. I just keep to my way and keep the focus on it till today.

What is the motive behind this?
The community in Lagos is quite strong. They built a really solid community of BMX riders. I just feel bad about Lagos. Nigeria is an opportunity, Opportunity in the street sport is hard, and everything is all about football. If it is not football, then there is nothing fun.
So, I feel like it is really good to give opportunities because I spend a lot of time with them. I discovered that they are talented and strong, and they are tough as well. Based on my experience, having a scraper is something that is going to help them really well, and they are going to improve their riding. They are going to be successful in life.

Giving back to society is a big thing. What is the motive, or what inspired you to give back to the society or country?
Good vibes inspire me and the way they treat me since I came back to Nigeria. I also feel like I am part of Nigeria. Although I was raised in Spain, I am Nigerian by origin, and it has helped me to improve my perspective on life; my mentality, and how I keep going and moving forward. I have spent a long time with them, and I felt like these guys deserve more than they have because all that they have, without having anything is power.
I’m just helping them to have something nice to be saved from the street and it is something that makes me happy and proud.

Talking about racism; have you encountered racism before in Spain?

Yes, sure, there are racists everywhere, but I tried to deal with it. I don’t really care about that, and people who think like that. I am just focused on my thing, my way. BMX is part of my life, and it is something I really like. It is something that gives me enough security. I can say maybe to just be on my own.

What do you like about Nigeria?
Nigerian food is amazing, and it is something I can never forget. It is very easy to get in Spain; the culture, the people, the energy, and the good vibes. It is really good, and it makes me feel at home.

What is your favourite food?
My favourite food is pounded yam and ogonnor soup.

Are you married or single?
I have a girlfriend, and thanks for this evening. It was really nice meeting you. Do have a wonderful night.
