Gov Bala decries security threat

By Nimake Earland
Governor Bala Mohammed has said the fact that Bauchi being mentioned as the most peaceful state in the country is giving it more serious challenges.

Governor Mohammed who stated this on Monday at the inaugural state executive council meeting held at the executive Chambersburg, expressed regret how men of the underworld are conniving with some traditional institutions, other leaders, and even with some bad eggs within the security agencies.

“They are conniving with our traditional leaders and even sometimes with bad eggs within the security agency”; the governor said.

You are representing local governments, you don’t sit in the town and look on. You have to work with your local government chairmen with your stakeholders.

The security we are having sleepless nights. You have seen I have come late, there is no time I am not talking about security. You are my Representatives in your own right. We will have to change our style, these people are coming”.

The Governor urged them to “Work hard so that we maintain that position. We are in the position we hardly get things our way except for the little resources and we are generating here and the ones coming from the federation account. Sometimes you look at smaller States than us. We are the third most populous State in northern Nigeria and yet our allocation is very low”

He said they have been carefully selected and have been found Worthy to be here. I will seize the opportunity to thank former members that have not returned, congratulate those who have come back as well as those who are new. This is the highest policy-making body of the State. This is not a contract awarding council, I have always looked at all of our challenges and try to give solutions that will find suggestions here and there.

Bauchi project is still on course, we have some projects and programs we have still not done and of course, some of you have come.

Others are still there Midway and others are still to be done.

We are coming to the end of the tenure, we have only barely one and a half years to go and during this period we are going to have a lot of interaction in terms of political activities and certainly, you have to marry the two. I know very soon some of you will be, Bala I want to go and run this and that, you are free to do that, that means we are going to have another set of people on board.

As it is we have to thank Allah S.A.W for giving us the opportunity to serve. Our successes are our collective successes. We have looked at the polity and the horizon. We have really impacted as much as we can give the deplorable condition when we took over.

The roads are there, we have taken some of them to hundred percent. I know most of the local governments are still yearning and our policy of making sure there is equity and justice will continue. I don’t want anybody to feel shortchanged.

Our hospitals are being renovated all over, we have rebuilt some of the primary centers, there is no local government or ward that has no functional primary health center, and this is a deliberate policy.

We just didn’t come about it and we thank our partners especially the World Bank, WHO, and UNICEF. Our Primary schools we have built so many and we are renovating so many quite away from where we have found it.

We believe our enrollment will improve, our educational sector has really improved we thank everybody including the commissioner. Yet we have a lot of hiccups here and there, many people opposing us. This is normally when we are coming with a pragmatic policy.

But we are doing very well, most of the local government’s worse affected are my local government, Toro, Ningi and Ganjuwa. We have to work very hard.
