Gov Soludo sacks Nwosu as Information Commissioner, swears-in Dr. Mefor

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has sworn in Dr. Law Mefor as the new Information Commissioner.
The latest development followed the sudden and dramatic sack of former Commissioner of Information Mr. Paul Nwosu.
Sources close to Agu Awka Government House said that Nwosu was sacked for alleged incompetence, because of the dwindling image of the governor, especially in the face of next year’s governorship election in the state.
According to the source who craved anonymity: “As I speak to you, Mr Paul Nwosu has packed his bag, and we’re just waiting for the news to be announced by the Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime.”
Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to Governor Soludo when contacted on Tuesday over the matter said he can not confirm the news yet.
The sudden sack of Mr. Nwosu has stirred jubilation among journalists in the state.
Some of the journalists said for close to three years, the embattled commissioner had never spoken to journalists in reaction to issues and developments nor issued statements on matters affecting the government.
However, Dr. Mefor is assuming office at a time when the dissemination of accurate and timely information is more critical than ever before.
According to Governor Soludo, the new information commissioner brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise that is expected to rejuvenate the state’s information apparatus.
Dr. Mefor hinted that working with the Governor’s vision, he plans to work with media organizations to promote media literacy among the public, providing them with the necessary tools to evaluate information critically and prevent the spread of inaccurate or misleading content.
The Commissioner also promised to use technology to modernize the state’s information Ministry, making it more responsive, efficient, and accessible to citizens, creating a ministry that leverages data-driven insights and analytics to support evidence-based policy-making and decision-making.
As a seasoned writer, public speaker, and media personality who is passionate about the role of the media in shaping public discourse and opinion, Dr. Mefor’s career spans over 25 years, and he has worked in various capacities, providing research and analytical support to organizations across different industries.
