Gov Yusuf ‘ll remain focused despite opposition antics – Kano govt

By Babs Oyetoro
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP has a clear-cut mission on how to make Kano attain the status of a mega city by restoring the ancient city master’s plan during Governor Abba Yusuf’s tenure.

This much was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature to the Kano State Governor during a parley with journalists in Lagos yesterday.
Bature revealed that the former APC Governor, Umar Ganduje caused great damage to the state just for selfish reasons but was quick to add that the incumbent governor has started the re-building process within his 100 days in office to restore the glory of the ancient city.
Bature, however, hinted that his principal remains unshakable in spite of the antics of the opposition party to reclaim power through the ‘backdoor’.
The CPS recounted the achievement of the governor in the education sector noting that huge investments had gone into this sector within this short period.

“Education has been the top priority of Governor Yusuf since he assumed office. The first thing he did was to pay all the outstanding in the SSCE examination and current registration fees for senior students. This ran to the tune of N1.6bn.
“For the benefit of those who are not keeping abreast with events going on in the state. His Excellency has also directed that all the state institutions to reduce their school fees to 50%.
“As it is, the school fees in the state in various institutions are between N10,000 and N20,000.
“Besides, the state government has taken up the payment of school fees of over seven thousand students at Bayero University in Kano. This will cost the state over N700m.
“More so, more than 1000 students have been given scholarships to study in different parts of the world by the state government”, he disclosed.
He stressed that the issue of demolition was blown out of proportion by political opponents to create disaffection against the government of the day, who are held bent to return to power through any means.
In a bid to put the record straight, Bature informed that the Governor embarked on this exercise just to keep his campaign promise to reclaim all the state-stolen properties under Ganduje’s watch and also restore the master’s plan of the state.
“Ganduje embarked on a large scale of destruction in selling government properties to his family members, cronnies at give away prices. He has also committed serious atrocities against the state and he has a lot of questions to answer. And we cannot afford to sweep this under the carpet”, he noted.
He also dismissed the recent judgement of the Electoral Tribunal saying the judgement will be upturned in favour of the ruling party at the end of the day.
“We are not perturbed by the verdict of the tribunal because we knew we won the election and Isha Allah we shall be vindicated at the appeal court”, he said with confidence.
