Gumel charges Sports Administrators on development

President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engineer Habu Gumel has charged the over 22 Sports Administrators that participated at the just concluded three-day Sports Administration Course to put into practice all they learnt at the course to drive the development of sports in the country.

The three-day Sports Administration Course organised by the NOC in partnership with the National Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD) South West, held at the boardroom of the NOC, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos from 5-7 June, 2024, attracted participants from various profession including Lawyers, doctors, Journalists, and Secretaries of Sports Federations with Prof Abiodun Moronfolu, Prof. Patrick Oyeniyi, Dr. Toyin Aluko and Dr. Akin Amao among others as facilitators.

The NOC President who declared the seminar closed, said he is of of the believe that the participants must have been enriched knowledge wise and charged them to go back to their domain and start putting what they have learnt into practice.

“The goal is to promote harmony in sports management worldwide based on active collaboration to ensure its’ success in various states and organisations, including Nigeria.

He noted that the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the parent body, through its’ Solidarity Programme, designed the Sports Administration and Advanced Sports Management courses to help National Olympic Committees in enhancing the skills of sports administration worldwide.

Engr Gumel advised Nigeria Sports Administrators not to joke with Sports Administration programmes such as this, as it not only empowers sports growth and give local communities opportunity to discuss good governance, ethical sports values, the achievement of sports values, the achievement of Olympic Movement and practical sports administration principles, the programme also contributes to effective sports management and strengthening the country’s ecosystem.

The programme co-ordinator, Mrs Deborah Chidobi also said the seminar must have equipped participants with the required tools needed for them to excel in Sports Administration.

This 5th collaborative effort between the NOC and NAPHER-SD, underscores the commitment of these organizations to elevate sports management practices and Sports Administration empowerment across Nigeria
