Tension has enveloped Sapele metropolis in Delta State as gunmen suspected to be hired assassins attacked a provision store and shot dead two children and a landlord.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the gory incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the locality and shot sporadically at the people sitting and buying items in the store located along Shell Road, Sapele.
Witnesses said that even though there were several persons in the store including three other men and those who died, it could not be ascertained whether the three others were hit by bullets from the assassins.
The landlord of the compound who was said to be among the people at the store when the gunmen struck, reportedly died from a gunshot injury after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
While many people in the community viewed the gunmen as hired assassins, no one could specifically ascertain who the operation was targeted.
Our correspondent gathered that no fewer than ten persons have been killed in rival cult clashes in Sapele and environs within the last month.
When contacted on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the Tuesday evening killings noting however that four suspects have already been arrested in connection with the gun attack.
