Unknown gunmen on Saturday night attacked Orhuwhorun community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, killing a popular trader and whisking away his son.

The five-man assailants, in a commando operation that lasted thirty minutes, struck at the Usiefurun junction axis at about 9 p.m. in a Toyota Sienna, and shot sporadically, in the process of which the famous building merchant, Francis Digbe Tefue, was killed.

The assailants reportedly abducted his son, Sam, who was with him during the attack.

It was gathered that the gunmen drove off with the abducted son of the slain merchant and headed towards Usiefurun road.

People in the area hinted that the deceased only a few months ago added Point of Sales (POS) service to his building materials business.

Residents of Orhuwhorun community were left bewildered by the sad news as many of them were seen discussing the development in hushed tones

The police public relations officer (PPRO) for Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the killing when contacted but stated that the son was not abducted by the assailants.

“Kill father, yes, but the son was not abducted. They came to rob him, he operated a POS shop,” the PPRO said.
