Unknown gunmen have on Saturday morning, murdered the chief engineer of Bauchi Federal polytechnic, Engineer Abubakar Muhammad, at his residence.
The tragic incident was announced on the verified official Facebook page of the Polytechnic, on Saturday.
The gunmen stormed the decease residence located at Birshin Fulani area, in the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis, along Bauchi – Dass road at about 2.30 am and murdered him.
It stated that the deceased was a Chief Engineer in the Directorate of Physical Planning of the institution.
“Innalillahi was Inna Blair rajiun. Unknown Gunmen killed one of our staff, Chief Engineer, Engr. Abubakar Garba Muhammad (Babangida Birshi) of Directorate of Physical Planning around 2:30 am at his residence in Burshin Fulani.
“The funeral (Jana’iza) prayer, as announced by the family will hold at 9:00 am in Birshin Fulani Mosque, behind his house praying that “may Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul Jannatil Firdausi”, the message read.
The Public Relations Unit of the Polytechnic also confirmed the incident and described it as “most unfortunate” assuring that everything humanly possible will be done to arrest the unknown gunmen.
Also, another resident of the area whose identity is not yet known was reportedly shot by the gunmen and is receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
The Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident to journalists in a telephone interview said that the number of the gunmen is yet to be ascertained.
He said that the deceased was shot in the neck by the gunmen and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi where he was confirmed dead.
“I can confirm to you that unknown gunmen attacked Burshin Fulani and killed one man, Abubakar Garba Muhammad of the Federal Polytechnic.

“He was shot in the neck. Our men who rushed to the scene evacuated him to the Teaching Hospital where the medical team on duty certified him dead,” The PPRO said.
Wakil added that: “Our patrol team stationed at the main gate of the Polytechnic on hearing gunshots from the direction at about 4 am, quickly mobilized and rushed to the area. The gunmen who sighted the light of the patrol van of our men fled”.
