A 42-year-old man, Peter Chukwu, was, on Friday, arraigned before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into a house with the intention to steal.
The defendant, of No. 2, Abeokuta St., Itire, Surulere, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and attempt to steal.
The Prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offenses on Jan. 21 at Block 85, Flat 4, Iponri Housing Estate, Surulere, Lagos.
“The defendant burgled the apartment of one Omotayo Ogunlade and while he was attempting to steal, he was caught,” Ekhueorohan stated.
He said that Ogunlade, the complainant, caught the defendant in his apartment and handed him over to the police.
According to him, the offenses contravene Sections 340 and 406 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Sadiq Bello, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos government.
Bello, thereafter, adjourned the case till Feb. 10, for further hearing.
