There was tension on Thursday among residents and people of Nnewi South local government area of Anambra state as unknown Gunmen set the council headquarters ablaze.
A security guard was killed during the attack on the council secretariat by the Gunmen.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo has ordered security agents in the state to fish out those behind the ugly incident.
Soludo charged the security agencies to ensure that the attackers did not escape the wrath of the law.
Many people believe that the ugly incident may have been carried out in the wee hours of Wednesday night.
It was not certain what might have led to the hoodlums setting the local government headquarters on fire.
Soludo who paid busy to the scene of the incident in the company of the Commissioner of police in the state, CP Echeng Echeng, urged the people of the state not to be discouraged by the development, assuring that his administration has the capacity to handle the situation.
He described the killing of the security guard as “mindless and very unfortunate”.
The governor said it was ungodly for any person to take the life of another.
Soludo added that the destruction of the key buildings within the local government including the education office and works department, as well as, the local government traditional rulers building complex was a huge economic waste.

He lamenting that the funds that would be deployed in reconstructing them would have been deployed to providing other critical infrastructure.
He, therefore assured that such acts of criminalities and lawlessness would not continue under his administration, and, charged the security agencies to go after the criminals and fish them out to face the law of the land.
He also urged the people of the state not to despair, stressing that his administration would rise to the challenge.
He declared that no amount of repression can prevail or thwart the efforts of the government to build a strong and safe Anambra State.
