House resumes tomorrow, to conclude electoral amendment bill

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the House of Representatives resumes plenary tomorrow, after almost three-month annual recess as the lawmakers would conclude work on the electoral amendment bill.

There are, however, feelers that the resumption may be postponed due to ongoing works on the leaking roof of the green chamber.

But if it finally resumes, the House will constitute a conference committee that will meet with its senate counterpart to look at the Electoral Amendment Bill and harmonize grey areas.

Recall that the PDP caucus in the House had staged- a walkout and declined to participate in what has become the controversial passage of the Bill on grounds of disagreement with the electronic transmission of result, which the caucus voted in support but was refused by the presiding officer, deputy speaker, Idris Ahmed Wase.

The House will also deal with the pending allegation of bribery to pass the petroleum Industry bill.
Before the House went on recess, it was alleged that some members were bribed to pass the Bill at all costs. A member will come under the Privileges rule to protests formerly; insiders told ThisNigeria.

As it is a tradition, the plenary will be suspended till Wednesday in honour of late Ondo lawmaker, Hon. Adedayo Omolafe, representing Akure South/North Constituency in the House of Representatives, Omolafe popularly known as expensive was a former chairman of the Akure South council area of the state.

The House will also be saddled with the passing of the MTEF/FSP in preparation for the 2022 Appropriation Bill which is expected to be forwarded by President Muhammed Buhari soon.

However, efforts to reach Hon. Ben Kalu, the House spokesman to confirm resumption and also to speak on likely critical areas they will engage in this last part of the year, were not successful, as he declined to respond to questions put to him through his Wattsapp
