A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe has claimed that Nigerians have always been hungry.
This was in defense of the recent outcry caused by some Nigerians who died due to a stampede in Abuja, Anambra and Oyo States while waiting to receive free food items.
Some netizens had blamed the President Bola Tinubu-led government for impoverishing Nigerians and turning them into hungry beggars.
However, Igbokwe who is a staunch supporter of Tinubu, claimed that hunger is not alien to the country.
Sharing a 1960 Nigerian newspaper, Igbokwe wrote on Facebook, “So hunger has been with us since 1960. We have to kill this hunger that has been ravaging us since 1960 by all means. I have seen poverty, I have seen wealth and wealth is better. We must fight this hunger with every energy at our disposal.”
