The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB) has dismissed allegations that N785.5 million meant for classroom construction and other educational projects in selected primary schools across the state was released without the projects being executed.
The board described the claims as false and unsupported by its records.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Press Officer, Banjo Egunjobi, ODSUBEB said an extensive review of its procurement records, contract award documents, project implementation schedules and financial records revealed no evidence to support the allegations circulating on social media.
The report had claimed that funds were released for classroom construction and related facilities at AUD Ibaka/Ilale Quarters in Akungba, Army Primary School Annex II in Akure, Ayedun Community Primary School in Akure, All Saints Primary School in Owobamibo I, Idanre, and Baptist Day Primary School in Ile-Oluji, despite no visible work being carried out at the sites.
ODSUBEB, however, maintained that none of the projects, locations or financial figures mentioned in the report corresponded with any contract awarded by the board.
According to the statement, no active contracts exist in its records matching the alleged classroom construction projects or the amounts quoted in the publication.
The board stressed that all projects funded through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention programme are subjected to strict procedures, including needs assessments, procurement processes, public advertisement, bid evaluations, contract awards, supervision and monitoring.
Egunjobi noted that projects under the 2025 UBEC-SUBEB Matching Grant Intervention were publicly advertised in national newspapers, including The Federal Tender Journal, Tribune, Vanguard and The Hope on January 12, 2026, in compliance with procurement regulations.
He added that while some of the schools mentioned in the report had benefited from previous intervention projects, those projects were different from the ones alleged.
He cited the renovation of a six-classroom block at Ayedun Community Primary School, Akure, under the 2023 intervention programme. He also referenced the renovation of another six-classroom block at Army Children School II, Akure, under the 2021 UBEC-SUBEB Matching Fund programme.
According to the board, both projects were completed in line with approved specifications.
ODSUBEB reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and public scrutiny, but urged members of the public to verify project details, implementing agencies and budgetary information before making or publishing allegations.
The board warned that the spread of unverified claims could misinform the public, damage the credibility of institutions and undermine ongoing efforts to promote transparency in governance.
It also called on those responsible for the publication to seek clarification from relevant authorities and correct what it described as a misleading narrative in the public domain.
