The administrator, National Judicial Institute, (NJI) Honorable Justice Salisu Garuba Abdullahi, Monday, stressed the need for increased awareness of Information Computer Training (ICT) for judicial workers in the country
He stated that the rapid development of ICT, has paved way ahead, which has helped improved judicial administration, especially in the area of making the work process of the ever increasing caseload within the courts lighter
Abdullahi, stated this while giving a key note address, at the opening ceremony of the national workshop on information and communication technology (ICT), held in Abuja
According to the administrator, the training modules, put together by the National Judicial Institute, NJI, was aimed at setting the pace and breaking new grounds in continuing professional and judicial education and to update the knowledge base and skills in the area of law and other specialized fields for improved performance for all category of judicial officers in Nigeria in the administration of justice
Represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo, at the workshop, the administrator reiterated, that internet and computer programs, possesses a great potential for assisting in problem solving, not only within our courts but also in the creation of information network or connectivity between the courts
“Increased awareness and knowledge at all levels of the judiciary on the importance of ICT, is Paramount; most especially from year 2020 till date
“The institute has engaged in the continuous training of judges and their support staff, to increase their capacity on the use of technology for effective justice delivery
“I have no doubt that the advantage of using ICT, is less time consuming and will speed up administration of Justice in Nigeria”
The emergence of ICT has introduced some radical changes in the legal profession just as the judiciary has designed a pragmatic policy on ICT which is now being implemented, in various jurisdiction within the country
As court system move towards automation, the NJI administrator added, that the process would lead to full scale E-filing of court processes, electronic recording of proceedings, E-judgements, E-rulings and execution of judgements on rulings
