The senator representing Katsina Central Senatorial, Kabir Barkiya, says he cannot rule out the possibility that the South-East or any other geo-political zone will not disintegrate soon from the country.
Barkiya, who stated that in an interview with This Nigeria, however, decried the destruction of public property in the South-East under whatever guise.
He spoke while responding to the position of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) that zones seeking to disintegrate from Nigeria should be allowed to do so.
According to Barkiya, Nigeria can break if it is not God’s will for the country to continue to exist as a united federation.
The lawmaker said, “God has the wisdom of joining us together. So, we should pray that whatever is best for us, let it be. There is no doubt that when we are united we can do better as a nation.
“When we are disunited, that is another thing entirely. My opinion is to continue praying that whatever is best for us, let the will of God be done.”

He added, “I respect everybody’s view, whether collectively or individually. Of course, what is happening in the South-East is very bad. You cannot continue to destroy lives and properties. Whatever you are agitating for, whether Biafra or what, you should do it in a civilized way.”
Barkiya, who argued that the country would stand stronger, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to endeavour to lead the country well.
He explained, “My advice for Mr. President is, of course, to ask Nigerians to be patient and prayerful. Also, he should note that he has obligations to Nigerians just as the citizens have theirs. When he fulfils his, definitely Nigerians will also fulfil theirs.
“Nigerians should be patient and be prayerful. When we are prayerful and patient, whatever we seek, we will achieve it. We have to pray seriously for God to give us peace in the country because it is only when there is a peace that there can be development.”
