Imo Govt., CIBN partner to enhance banking operations

The Imo Government says it will collaborate with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) to enhance the operations of the banking sector in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Oguwike Nwachuku, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Hope Uzodinma, and made available to newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday.

Nwachuku stated that Uzodimma made the pledge, when the state executive of CIBN visited him at the Government House, Owerri on Tuesday.

The governor was quoted to have lauded the corporate social responsibility role being performed by the institute in Imo.

He assured the team that his government would create the enabling environment for the body of bankers to discharge its duties in the state without hinderance.

He opined that it was through unhindered operations that the institute could be able to impact positively on Imo citizens.

“We will leverage this opportunity provided by the institute in training and awareness creation in the state.

“Also, government will facilitate the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy to CIBN to enable it to put up a befitting structure for its Imo branch,” Uzodinma stated.

Earlier, the state Chairman of the institute, Dr Bayo Olugbemi, said they came to solicit partnership with the government on how to improve the banking industry and its operators in Imo.

Olugbemi called on the governor to utilise his experience as a former federal legislator to assist in the passage of the proposed amendment of the CIBN Law at the National Assembly.

He further appealed to the governor to engage the body in the training and retraining of civil servants in state civil service. (NAN)
