Imoke, Abdulfatah to lead ADC presidential primary c’ttee

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, and former Kwara State governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, to head critical committees for its 2027 presidential primary process.

Under the arrangement announced by the party on Monday, Imoke will chair the Presidential Screening Committee. At the same time, Abdulfatah Ahmed will lead the Presidential Election Committee as the ADC intensifies preparations for the next general elections.

The party said the appointments were part of efforts to guarantee transparency, credibility and internal democracy in the conduct of its primaries.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the Presidential Screening Committee headed by Imoke will have Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum is serving as secretary.

Other members of the committee include Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, Hon. Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, Prof. David Salifu and Col. Abubakar Ali Ciroma.

Similarly, the Presidential Election Committee, chaired by Abdulfatah Ahmed, will have Prof. Yisa Gana as secretary.

Members of the committee are Maj.-Gen. Adamu Jalingo, Dr Auwalu Anwar, Chief Emenike Ikechi, Dr Macaulay Iyare, Tajudeen Bakare, Elder Ubolo Itodo Okpanachi, Zainab Buba Galadima, Uzoamaka Onyeama and Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris.

The opposition party also established a Presidential Appeals Committee to address disputes arising from the presidential primary.

The committee will be chaired by Suleiman Usman, while Barr. Ken Imasuagbon will serve as secretary alongside Barr. Dare Okerade as a member.

For its governorship primaries, the ADC approved two separate screening committees to supervise the exercise across the states.

The first committee is chaired by S.E. Aruwa, SAN, with Femi Olawuyi serving as secretary.

Other members include Lauretta Onochie, Chief Vivian Ugochukwu, Akilu Indabawa, Ibrahim Mohammed Wali and Prof. Rabiu Bello.

Barr will head the second governorship screening committee. Justina Abanida will serve as secretary, while Hon. Chille Igbawua will serve as secretary.

Its members include Gerrard Irona, Sen. Yisa Braimoh, Hassan Mohammed Ibrahim, Joseph Ephraim Enemali and Navy Capt. Aliyu Ngolmo.

The party further approved two Governorship Appeal Committees to entertain petitions and disputes arising from the screening and primary processes.

ADC maintained that the committees were deliberately constituted to strengthen confidence in its internal electoral system and ensure a credible primary process ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The committees were carefully constituted to ensure transparency, credibility, fairness and internal democracy throughout the conduct of the party’s primaries,” the statement said.
