Opening Act: Comedy and Hit Songs Set the Stage
The night began with the ever-charismatic comedian MC Shakara, who took on the role of the event’s official MC. As the crowd gathered and the anticipation grew, Shakara set the tone with his humour, lightening the atmosphere and warming up the crowd. Alongside DJ Tiwa, who spun hit Afrobeat tracks back to back, the audience quickly found their rhythm, dancing and vibing to the infectious beats. The energetic start built excitement for what was to come.
After a few moments, MC Shakara introduced an up-and-coming Afrobeat artist, MBW, who took the stage to perform two tracks. Her melodic voice and strong stage presence captivated the crowd, signalling that the night was only getting started. Just as the energy was reaching a peak, Steevane and The Wind Band took over, dominating the atmosphere with soulful tunes that had the audience singing along and dancing in unison.
Emerging Talents: From Bensman to Clayrocksu
As the event progressed, MC Shakara continued to hype up the crowd, introducing the next act, Bensman, who performed with infectious energy, leaving the audience wanting more. During his set, MC Shakara made a surprise appearance, bringing out a bottle of Monkey Shoulder whiskey, made in Scotland, and offering a playful moment to keep the crowd entertained. After Bensman’s performance, the MC took the stage again to crack jokes and keep the momentum going.
The night continued with a nostalgic twist, as Shakara instructed DJ Tiwa to play old-school Afrobeat tracks, starting with Bigiano’s “Shayo,” followed by hits from artists like Olamide, Tony Tetuila, Lord of Asa, and more. The crowd, full of nostalgia, cheered and sang along, enjoying the throwback hits. By midnight, the audience was treated to a surprise as MC Shakara introduced rock star Clayrocksu, who performed a track from her new EP, Lele. Clayrocksu dedicated the song to the love of her life, adding a personal touch to the night. She also covered Davido’s hit “Feel,” with the audience joining in as they vibed and sang along.
The night took another unexpected turn when Clayrocksu showcased her versatility with a raw rock song from her EP. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, thrilled by her dynamic performance. As she wrapped up her set, she encouraged fans to stream her new songs, leaving the crowd excited for what was next.
A Night of Surprises: Morravey and YB the Guitarist
As the night continued, another surprise awaited the crowd. Afrobeat artist Morravey took the stage, delivering a flawless mix of her classic songs with a touch of dancehall. The crowd was clearly enjoying her set, dancing and moving to the beats. Mid-performance, Morravey paused to share a special moment with the audience, revealing that the next song she would perform was particularly meaningful to her. She demonstrated a dance step, which the crowd eagerly followed. Before exiting the stage, Morravey encouraged her fans to stream her two new singles, ensuring her presence would linger long after the event.
MC Shakara returned to the stage to introduce YB, a professional guitarist. However, Brymo’s fans were becoming restless, expressing their impatience and chanting his name. “We want Brymo!” they yelled, but YB’s performance quickly won them over. As he played popular songs on his guitar, the crowd began to sing along and dance, fully immersed in the moment. By 1:11 a.m., the excitement in the air was palpable.
The Main Event: Brymo Takes the Stage
Finally, at 1:30 a.m., the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived. Brymo took the stage, wearing a simple black T-shirt, three-quarter trousers, and barefoot—a look that resonated with his fans, who were already chanting his name. The energy in the venue reached its peak as Brymo kicked off his set with Akoko, instantly igniting the crowd. His fans, already electrified, erupted with excitement, singing and dancing in unison.
Brymo followed with Alajo Somolu and Them Dey, but the standout moment came when one of his female fans, overwhelmed with emotion, collapsed upon seeing him live. The crowd was momentarily concerned, but after a few minutes and a splash of water, the fan revived, quickly getting back to her feet, dancing and shouting, “I love you, Brymo!”
The magic didn’t stop there. After performing Them Dey, Brymo paused to address the crowd, offering a heartfelt shoutout to the CEO of Wakanow and his fans. He also cracked a joke, saying, “The song I’m about to perform now, I’m sure you’ve never heard it before.” He then launched into Okunrin Meta, and the crowd erupted with joy. A couple in the front row, deeply moved by Brymo’s music, thanked him for bringing love back into their relationship, dancing together to Na You.
As Brymo performed Money Good, MC Shakara made his way to the corner of the stage, visibly moved by Brymo’s talent and the connection he shared with the audience. The love between the artist and his fans was palpable, and the entire event felt like a celebration of music and togetherness.
A Fitting End to an Incredible Night
As Brymo wrapped up his set, the crowd was left wanting more. Some fans were seen crying, expressing their disappointment that Brymo hadn’t performed their favourite songs. One fan, in particular, was heard saying he had travelled to Lagos specifically to hear Brymo perform a certain track. The MC, sensing the fan’s pain, had the DJ play the requested song, and the fan rejoiced in pure bliss.
Despite the late hour and the fact that Brymo didn’t perform for hours, his brief but impactful set was enough to leave an indelible mark on his fans. The concert was a true testament to Brymo’s ability to connect with his audience on a deeper level—spirit to spirit, soul to soul. His performance, full of raw emotion, energy, and passion, made this concert one for the books.
By the time the night concluded, the crowd was still buzzing, and the overall consensus was clear: Brymo had once again proven why he is one of the most beloved and respected artists in Africa. The concert was, without a doubt, lit—a night of unforgettable music, great performances, and a truly magical connection between an artist and his fans.
