Police in Anambra state have rescued a female victim kidnapped from Ogbunike community in the state.
The rescue followed a distress call in the early hours of Wednesday along St. Monica Vollege, Ogbunike.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in a statement, disclosed that the operatives arrested one Mr Jamui Emiron ‘m,’ aged 22years.
They also recovered one already damaged yellow Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration number Anambra UKP 729 A.
The command stated that the suspect is among a gang of armed robbers that attacked and robbed occupants of a residential house in Ezi-Ogidi where they abducted a female victim and were en-route their den before the police were alerted.
According to DSP Ikenga, “In the early hours of today 3/5/2023, police operatives attached to Ogbunike division responding to a distress call along St Monica College Ogbunike road, arrested one Mr Jamui Emiron ‘m’ aged 22years and recovered one already damaged yellow Mitsubishi L300 bus with Anambra reg nos: UKP 729 A.”
The command said that members of the neighbourhood had already supported the police by blocking the exit points within the area, intercepting the vehicle and apprehending two of the gang members while others escaped.”
“Unfortunately, upon the arrival of the police operatives, one of the suspects has already been set ablaze by the angry mob and the criminal operational vehicle was badly damaged. The Operatives rescued the victim, the second suspect and recover the vehicle.”
The Command while reiterating the campaign against mob action by some members of the public who resort to jungle justice whenever they arrest suspects in respect of any crime, commended the efforts and courage of community members in apprehending the suspects but encouraged them to take such suspect to the nearest Police Station whenever they are apprehended.

It pointed out that the move would afford the Police the opportunity to conduct an appropriate investigation into the nefarious activities of the suspects and bring them to justice following extant laws.
The rescued victim was taken to the hospital to receive medical attenrion while the second suspect is in custody and is helping the Police with useful information in the ongoing operation to arrest fleeing gang members.
