INEC rallies Ondo residents for voter registration, partners NGO ahead of CVR deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stepped up efforts to increase voter registration in Ondo State through a partnership with non-governmental organisation, U-Blaze Global Limited, ahead of the July 26 deadline for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The electoral commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday after a voter awareness campaign held across Akure, the Ondo State capital.

According to INEC, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to encourage eligible Nigerians to register as first-time voters, transfer their registration to new locations where necessary and update their voter records before the registration window closes.

The commission said the campaign, tagged “PVC Assembly Walk 2026 – Vote Ready Ondo,” was designed to strengthen voter education, promote civic responsibility and mobilise residents to participate in the electoral process.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission, Ondo State Office, in collaboration with U-Blaze Global Limited, organised a voter sensitisation walk in Akure to encourage eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise ahead of its July 26 deadline,” the statement said.

INEC explained that participants in the awareness campaign moved through several major roads in the state capital to sensitise residents on the importance of obtaining Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participating in future elections.

According to the commission, the procession began at the First Bank Traffic Light in Alagbaka and passed through Omi-Eja, A-Division, Olukayode and Oja-Oba before ending at Democracy Park, located behind the Central Mosque in Akure.

The exercise attracted students, members of U-Blaze Global Limited and officials of the electoral commission.

“At the end of the walk, participants engaged members of the public in voter education activities, providing information on the registration process and highlighting the importance of citizens’ participation in the electoral process,” the commission stated.

Speaking during the event, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC’s Ondo State office, Mr. Olayinka Ogunseye, praised the collaboration between the commission and the civil society organisation, describing partnerships with non-state actors as essential to expanding voter awareness.

Ogunseye said INEC would continue to work with civil society groups and other stakeholders to deepen voter education and encourage wider participation in elections across the state.

“The Commission remains committed to expanding partnerships with civil society organisations and other stakeholders to strengthen voter education and public sensitisation,” he said.

He added that under the leadership of the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, the commission would sustain programmes aimed at improving citizens’ participation in the democratic process.

Ogunseye also appealed to eligible residents who have yet to register, as well as those seeking to transfer their registration or update their voter details, to complete the process before the July 26 deadline.

He stressed that timely registration would enable more qualified Nigerians to exercise their constitutional right to vote in future elections.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to expanding voter education across Ondo State, saying it would continue to engage communities and stakeholders to ensure that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to register and participate in the country’s electoral process.
