INEC says 4.4m Nigerians have pre-registered online

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that more than 4.4 million Nigerians have pre-registered online in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.

National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, who gave the update stated that a total of 4,445,505 citizens had completed their online pre-registration as of Sunday, 14th September 2025.

He said: “  This marks the fourth week of the exercise, which commenced on 18th August 2025. Out of the figure, 2,141,294 (48.17%) are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. By age and occupation, 2,924,643 (65.79%) are young people between 18 and 34 years, and 1,112,344 (25.02%) are students.

“ On the completed registration, which includes both online pre-registration and physical (in-person) registration, the IVEC Chairman disclosed that 509,929 citizens have so far finalised the process as of Friday, 12th September 2025.Of this number, 229,758 (45.06%) are male and 280,171 (54.94%) are female. In terms of demographics, 378,132 (74.15%) are young people between the ages of 18 and 34, while 196,529 (38.54%) are students”, he said.

Olumekun added that the detailed breakdown of the registration figures by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability has been uploaded on the Commission’s website and official platforms for public access.

On the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), he recalled that online pre-registration ends Monday, 15th September 2025.

“ For the next two weeks, registration will continue physically at designated venues, before being devolved to all 62 Wards across the FCT from 29th September to 8th October 2025.

The IVEC Chairman further noted that the detailed addresses of the centres have been published on INEC’s platforms.
