International Women’s Day: Akerele call for cessation of hostilities in Ukraine-Russia war

says women are more affected in crisis ridden regions including northeast Nigeria

As the World marks International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022, a day to celebrate the unyielding and unique roles of women in the homes, communities, and institutions despite challenges they suffer, the Executive Director, Policy House International, Taiwo Francis Akerele has called for a cessation of hostilities between Ukraine-Russia war, noting that women suffer more.

Akerele made this call in a statement signed saying women and children bore the pains and anguish arising from every crisis because of their vulnerability to attacks. He explained that there should be an end to all crises in the troubled regions including northeast Nigeria.

He said a situation where school children are deprived of access to education because of crisis should never be accepted reiterating the need for more electoral and economic opportunities for women so that the world can be free of violence.

“As we mark the celebration of its women’s day across the globe, we remember women in conflict-ridden regions of the world where they are most affected and are now refugees, we, therefore, join the UN and other int’l bodies to call for peace between Ukraine and Russia, for peace in Myanmar and the troubled regions of Nigeria northeast where women are been discouraged from enrolling in schools and others are shut down while several school girls are in captivity.

“We call for more electoral and economic opportunities for women in Africa especially as the world gradually recovers from COVID-19”, he noted.
