IPOB issues ‘stern warning’ to Buhari, Malami

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday issued what it called ‘a stern warning’ to the Federal Government that it risks ‘a shocking disgrace’ soon over the fate of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The secessionist group also berated the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, over the ‘nature’ of its leader, who was bundled into a plane and brought to Nigeria.

IPOB said the Federal Government and Malami should save themselves from imminent disgrace about to befall them.

Spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said Kanu committed no offence known to the law in Nigeria and the world at large.

Powerful accused the Federal Government of “manufacturing charges unknown to the law, amending Kanu’s charges six times”.

In a statement he signed, Powerful wondered what happened to the treason charges against Kanu.

IPOB said the latest 15-count charges “hold no water”.

According to Powerful: “The global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU, wish to state unequivocally that the introduction of empty charges is a simple delay tactic by the Nigerian government to drag on the issue of releasing our liberator and prophet, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, unconditionally from the DSS custody.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, in their desperation to manufacture offences that may provide suitable grounds to proffer charges where no offence known to law existed, severally carried out six successive amendments to the frivolous charges filed against Mazi Nnamdi KANU.

Meanwhile, presidential aspirant and journalist, Dele Momodu, has called on the Federal Government to reach a settlement with Igbo leaders over the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), and is facing charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.

In a post on his verified Facebook page yesterday, Momodu stated that the lack of agreement between the Federal Government and Kanu had resulted in suffering in Igboland.

He said this while speaking on the release of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, by the authorities in the Benin Republic.

He wrote, “Multiple sources have told me Chief Sunday Igboho Adeyemo has told them of my nocturnal visit to him in Cotonou… For me, it was not a big deal.

“I remember how many Nigerians risked everything to support me when I was arrested and detained at Alagbon, Lagos, in 1993 over the June 12 crisis.

“I have just read the report of my visit on Opera News and am truly humbled.

“Nigerian leaders have a lot to learn from The Madiba, Dr Nelson Mandela, in seeking for peace and reaching out to those who are not happy with the unnecessary division and the breakdown of law and order in many parts of our great country…

“I’m asking the Federal Government to speedily reach an amicable settlement with Igbo leaders over Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“The suffering in Igboland as a result of this impasse is absolutely excruciating and highly regrettable…”
