The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) has kicked against what it tagged “ill-conceived” surgery on its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, whom it said has been illegally and unconstitutionally detained in the facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) for two years without charge.
It said the rejection was a result of “the deteriorating health condition of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the proposed ear surgery by the Nigerian government and the DSS medical team”.
The Director of Media and Publicity Secretary of IPoB, Emma Powerful, stated this at the weekend, in a statement to newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
He said, “IPoB completely rejects any ill-conceived surgery on our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPoB, who has been illegally and unconstitutionally detained in the DSS dungeon for two years without charge. We reiterate that he should be released to his personal physicians who will perform the prescribed ear surgery on him.”
The group expressed the fear that the surgery was a plan by those in authority to tactically kill Kanu in the DSS facility.
“We want to draw the attention of IPoB worldwide, all lovers of freedom and lovers of Biafra, on the dangerous plans to neutralise Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through ear surgery, by the enemies on the DSS medical team.”
According to IPoB, “It is obvious that the DSS has intentions to eliminate our leader through this ill-conceived ear surgery. That’s why they refused to allow Mazi Nnamdi Kanu access to his personal and trusted physicians.

“Therefore, we reject any DSS or Nigerian government-sponsored surgery on our leader while he is still being detained illegally in solitary confinement.”
IPoB added, “It is true that our leader requires urgent ear surgery from the injury the Nigerian agents inflicted on him when he was kidnapped and tortured in Kenya. However, such a surgery will not take place while he is still inside the DSS dungeon.
“What will happen if he develops any medical complications during or after the surgery in the detention facilities? Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be unconditionally released as the courts ordered or released on medical grounds to attend to his health.”
According to the secessionist group, “If the Nigerian DSS could not find a qualified ENT doctor to handle Buhari’s ear infections during his eight years in office, how come the DSS suddenly have qualified ENT doctors in their team to carry out ear surgery on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu? The same way Buhari was a leader of a nation is the same way Mazi Nnamdi KANU is a leader of 75 million people of the Biafra Nation.
“IPOB is capable of taking our leader to any part of the world for the best medical services. We, therefore, once again call on the Nigeria Government and DSS to release Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu.”
They warned that “If anything untoward happens to him, they will dance to any tune IPoB will play for them. We warn them with their cohorts who are showcasing some doctors as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s doctors to cease and desist.”
“We urge Biafrans to oppose the planned ear surgery on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as planned by the Nigerian government and DSS agents.”
