It is not right for us to wash our dirty linens in the media, Matawalle warns APC, Akeredolu

The Governor of Zamfara State, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and governors of the party to stop washing dirty linens in public.

The governor in a statement by Zailani Bappa Special Adviser Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications on Friday spoke against the backdrop of recent happenings in the APC where the Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had referred to some of APC governors as ‘”Yahoo, Yahoo” governors’ and ‘scavengers’.

Matawalle said that he believes that everyone has been trying their best to move APC forward and that right now the APC needs strength and unity to face the challenges ahead as elections draw near.
He also said that

Matawalle said: “It is not right for us to wash our dirty linens in the media especially at this critical time of the Party’s transformation as we move towards a decisive period in 2023”, Governor Matawalle observed.

“I believe that each of us has been trying his best in his own way to move the interest of our great Party forward. His Excellency, Bukar Mai Mala Buni has, no doubt, contributed immensely to the promotion of the Party’s fortunes, and indeed all other Governors who disagreed with one another”.

“However, we all disagree to agree. That is the beauty of democracy. There is no point in promoting disharmony among ourselves after disagreements are settled nor is it wise to drag the name of His Excellency, Mr President into taking sides on issues that are ordinarily a normal political misunderstanding common to every collective of interests”, Governor Matawalle further observed.

“Now, more than ever before, the Party needs the strength and unity to face the challenges ahead as we move towards the critical period of elections of which the Party must maintain its supremacy at all levels” Matawalle advised.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for always being a father to all as well as all his colleagues for their various contributions to the success of the Party and opined that “together as one, we shall continue to conquer and prosper”.

Akeredolu had said “Nevertheless, the courage and determination, as well as shrewd sincerity of purpose demonstrated by most of the APC governors, remain a delight. Significantly, the swift response and prompt action taken by Mr President have, in no small means, salvaged our great party from internal scavengers. We indeed survived a civilian coup largely inspired by mischief and incurable lust for power through artificial barricades.

“Succinctly, aside from feeling very delighted as a major stakeholder in the latest successful Rescue Mission, I express my confidence in the ability and capacity of Governor Sanni Bello to take APC through.

“We, the governors are for the party except for the few “Yahoo, Yahoo” governors (apologies to Salihu, former DG of the Progressive Governors’ Forum) who were hand in glove with Buni to circumvent the will of the majority of our party (APC) members.

“The progressive governors in the true name, mostly all of us, are determined to see our Party through these patchy parts at all cost. None of the scanty numbers has the guts to carry out their imaginary threats as reported in sponsored stories.

“We dare them to leave the party. Their short-lived antics in arm-twisting Governor Buni and probably, some pocket-filling elements within the corridors of power to supplant the President’s will through fake letters, endorsements as well as ‘Black Market’ injunction (procured since November 2021) is despicable.

“Now that the clear motive aimed at frustrating our national convention has been botched, our dear party is on the track to greatness. Governor Bello carry on; you have the backing of the majority of us. You shall see our full backing come Thursday, 17th March 2022 at the National Executive Committee meeting.”
