Senate: Akpabio, Natasha clash over seating arrangement

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central clashed over seating arrangement on Thursday.
The lawmaker disrupted the plenary session following the altercation over her seating arrangement, which was implemented without her approval.
While the session was ongoing, Senator Mohammed Ali Monguno, the Chief Whip, reportedly raised a point of order regarding what he described as an “improper seating arrangement” concerning Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Senate President Akpabio, presiding over the session, ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan to leave the chamber, calling on the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort her out.
The situation was eventually brought under control after the public address systems were turned off, allowing for a return to normal proceedings.
Recall that in July 2024, the Senate President famously rebuked her during a plenary session, stating, “We are not in a nightclub,” after she spoke out of turn. The comment drew sharp criticism, with many accusing him of sexism. He later issued a public apology, but the latest order for her removal has reignited concerns over his leadership style and interactions with female senators.
