JAMB results error: Unilorin commends Oloyede for transparency

The University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Kwara State has applauded the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for his honesty in the case of mass failure of students who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Recall that on Wednesday, Oloyede, during a press conference admitted that over 400,000 students who sat for the national examination failed due to a glitch on the part of JAMB.
The Registrar took the blame for the mass failure, adding that the affected students would be invited to resit the examination.
His revelation caused a lot of uproar on social media with some Nigerians calling for his resignation and prosecution.
However, in a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor of Unilorin, Prof Wahab Egbewole, the institution threw its weight behind Oloyede, who had earlier served as the school’s VC.
Stating that the institution is proud of Oloyede, the VC said it takes courage and honesty to take the fall in such a situation.
The statement reads partly, “We hereby write to appreciate you on how the developments on the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was handled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board under your leadership.
“As a University, we want to put on record the fact that the Board approached the issues that arose on the result with truthfulness and nothing was hidden from the public. This approach demonstrated courage, honesty of purpose, integrity, strength of character, and on the whole a call to the younger generation to emulate these positive values.
“The admission of the error committed by one of the service providers culminating in the result that affected more than 300.000 candidates could have been laid at the doorstep of the service provider but you took full responsibility. This is an uncommon phenomenon in Nigeria.”
The institution prayed to God to direct the Registrar as he serves the country.
