British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has announced his resignation as the leader of the Conservative Party.
Sunak made the announcement on Friday, July 5th, following the Labour Party’s victory in the country’s general election.
The Labour Party, headed by Keir Starmer, won an outright majority in the lower house of the British parliament, according to a tally of seats by broadcaster Sky News.
Taking to his official Twitter account, Sunak said “I have given this job my all. But you have sent a clear message, and yours is the only judgement that matters.
“This is a difficult day, but I leave this job honoured to have been Prime Minister of the best country in the world.”

Sunak conceded defeat in the general election minutes before any media outlet declared that the threshold of 326 seats was reached.
The exit poll commissioned by three broadcaster, the BBC, ITV, and Sky News forecast earlier that the Labour would achieve a landslide win of 410 seats, while the number of seats for the Conservatives would be reduced to 131.
“The Labour Party has won this general election, and I’ve called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory.
“The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn… and I take responsibility for the loss,” he said.
