Despite efforts to stop the grand reception and Thanksgiving by agents allegedly linked to the State Government, thousands of people trooped out at Abalama to receive FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and his entourage.
Prominent sons of the land led by Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, Chief Flag Ojukaye, among others took turns to eulogise Wike for supporting the Ijaw nation all through the years.
Kelly said: “Wike is one leader that has empowered the Ijaw people more than any other person in our recent history. Look at all the key appointments he has facilitated: Boma, Ojukaye, my humble self and many others. He also made sure we produced a governor. We can’t pay such a man with ingratitude. We are not an ungrateful people. Wike loves Ijaw people, despite the betrayal of our son. ”
Ojukaye, Director of Energy Security in the office of the National Security Adviser, echoed Kelly’s sentiments, saying Ijaw nation would continue to appreciate Wike’s laudable gestures.
While appreciating the Kalabari people for grand reception, Wike said it was because of his love for his Ijaw brothers and in the spirit of live and let live, that he did all within his powers to actualize the Fubara governorship dream.
“All those running around him were opposed to his governorship. They said they couldn’t serve master and son. They said he was inexperienced. They said all sorts of things. But today they are following him everywhere and deceiving him.”
The FCT Minister said because of his good intentions towards his successor, he had conceptualised laudable projects and left them for him to commission.
” Let him show one initiative he has brought up since he came into office. The Trans-Kalabari road and many others were my projects but I wanted him to shine with them thinking we were one family.”
Wike promised to continue his support for the people of Kalabari and Ijaw
” I will be with you and support you for your love and support for me. God bless you all. ”
Among dignitaries who accompanied Wike to the grand event were Adamawa governor, Umar Fintiri, Elder Statesman and chairman Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabrabra; Prince Emma Anyanwu; former Dep Speaker House of Reps, Rt.
