To create opportunities for pursuing tertiary education by Kano State indigenes, Governor Kabir Yusuf, yesterday flagged off the distribution of free JAMB forms to 6,500 secondary school students.
In a statement made available to newsmen by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said the gesture was symbolic of the government’s unwavering commitment to invest in the future of its citizens.
The governor said during the distribution, “We believe that education is a bedrock of development and by empowering our students, our children would have access to quality education, we are laying the foundation for a prosperous and sustainable future for our dear state Kano.”
He used the opportunity to elaborate on the feats achieved by his government in developing the education sector in the last ten months including; the re-introduction of foreign scholarships, payment of registration fees to Kano indigenes studying at Bayero University, Kano, re-opening of 21 Skills Acquisition institutes.
Others according to the governor are; the reduction of 50 per cent of registration fees in the state-owned tertiary institutions, Cash Conditional Transfer to Support Girls-Child education, and settlement of registration fees for NECO, NABTEB, NBAIS to mention but a few.
Yusuf urged all the beneficiary students to make the best use of the opportunity and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits saying that the future belongs to those who work tirelessly to turn dreams into realities.
He appreciated the JAMB Register, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the management and staff of the state Ministry of Education, and all other stakeholders who contributed to making the exercise a huge success as it will help in projecting the state in its quest to take education to greater heights in the state.
