Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has used the annual Kadiriyya Maukibi gathering to seek continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Yusuf appealed on Saturday in Kano at the religious gathering, which attracted Islamic scholars, political leaders and thousands of followers of the Qadiriyya order from different parts of the country.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf said the gathering offered an opportunity to strengthen unity, peaceful coexistence and support for Tinubu’s administration.

“The gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen unity, peaceful coexistence and support for the leadership of President Tinubu,” the governor was quoted as saying.

The appeal gave the religious gathering an added political dimension as political parties and their leading figures intensify consultations and positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with religious and community platforms increasingly attracting political stakeholders.

The event also featured the commissioning of a newly constructed Maukibi platform built by the Kano State Government, with Ibrahim Kabir Masari representing President Tinubu at the commissioning.

The gathering attracted former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, identified in the statement as the Director-Generals of the APC and ADC presidential campaign councils, respectively.

The presence of senior political figures from different political camps highlighted the growing significance of major religious and community gatherings as political actors seek engagement with influential constituencies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Yusuf reiterated the importance of peaceful coexistence and unity, while urging continued support for the Tinubu administration, according to the statement issued after the event.

The governor’s intervention came amid increasing political consultations across the country, as parties and political actors begin strengthening alliances, mobilising supporters and engaging influential groups ahead of the next presidential contest.

The Kano State Government said the annual Kadiriyya Maukibi remained an important platform for religious interaction, unity and peaceful coexistence, even as political leaders used the gathering to communicate their positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
