Kano shuts down all  schools

...Due to Covid-19 second wave and Katsina students' abduction

Following the threat posed by the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and fears  invoked by the abduction of students of GSS Kankara in neighbouring Katsina State, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje  has ordered the shut down of all public and private  schools   operating in the state with immediate effect today.

The governor gave the directive last night to the state ministries of health, education and higher education that public and private primary and secondary schools should be sealed off.

He further instructed that all tertiary institutions irrespective of ownership status should be  shut down.

The state commissioner of  Health,  Dr Aminu Tsanyawa told journalists today that Governor Ganduje has  directed the ministry of health to shut down  all health institutions, schools of nursing and midwifery inclusive.

Kano state commissioner of education, Muhammed Sanusi Kiru in a statement issued today said “all boarding schools, public and private schools are  all shut down with immediate effect.”

“All parents are to convey their  children on Wednesday, 16th December, 2020.

In  the same vein, Kano state commissioner for higher education, Hajiya Mariya Mohammed  Bunkure, said the ministry in compliance with directives from Governor Ganduje has directed the shut down of all tertiary institutions that are situated in all parts of the  state.

Hajiya Mariya said: “His Excellency has approved the closure off all tertiary institutions in the state with immediate effect. All students are to vacate campuses from 16th December, 2020.

“Students are advised to continue to revise their lessons from home.”
