Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf yesterday received 30 members of opposition parties who had abandoned their political platforms and joined the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
The decampees include top-ranking members who contested various elective positions in the 2023 general elections in Kano under the platforms of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and the National Rescue Movement (NRM).
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said NNPP warmly embraced the former opposition members at a special occasion held at Africa House, Government House, Kano.
In their separate declarations, the leaders of the two opposition parties revealed that Governor Yusuf’s sincere intention to build a viable society informed their decision to join the ruling NNPP.
Malam Shehu Nuhu, one of the leaders, said he was convinced by the government’s laudable projects, especially in the health and education sectors, which are a major consideration in his return to NNPP.
While receiving the decampees, Governor Yusuf commended the decision and conviction to admit the truth amid political gimmicks being spread by opposition parties.
He reminded the audience that the NNPP administration would sustain an unwavering commitment to socio-economic development, especially across all critical sectors of the economy.
“We are doing nothing but implementing our party’s manifesto, Kwankwasiyya ideology, and our blueprint. Rest assured that you will be carried along in the NNPP’s affairs, policies, and programmes of the present administration for the overall development of Kano,” Yusuf assured.
