The virtues of the late business mogul and philanthropist, Capt. Idahosa Okunbo, at the weekend, came alive at the Keffi Polo Ranch Tournament as the organisers immortalised his legacy and dedicated a trophy to have competed annually in his honour.

The late commercial pilot and humanist was until his death a patron of Keffi Polo Ranch in Nasarawa State and was a strong pillar to the development of the game in the state.

Okunbo died on August 8 at a private clinic in London.

The one-week event attracted the crème de la crème of the society and lovers of polo game across the country who witnessed the special tournament played by professionals in honour of their late patron and the representation of trophies to winners.

Some of the notable personalities include Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai (retd.), Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Minister of Sport, Sunday Dare, Ahmed Wadada and a former governor of the state, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

The organised special competition was played between Ocean Marine Solutions Limited and Wells Carlton Hotels & Apartments. The OMSL, however, won the special play.

The son of the late business mogul, Osahon Okunbo, who is an Executive Director in Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, represented the Okunbo’s family.

He expressed gratitude to Ahmed Wadada and organisers for finding his late father worthy of being immortalised.

Osahon, an entrepreneur and trained engineer, while reacting to the honour said the Okunbo’s family are indeed honoured by the gesture and noted that their late father built bridges that cut across ethnic, religion, tribe or creed and thanked the organisers.

“On behalf of myself and the entire Okunbo’s Family, I want to say we are indeed grateful. We are grateful to Hon Ahmed Wadada whom we all consider as a family member. Our late father lived a good life worthy of emulation. His love for humanity knows no bounds so we are not surprised that this is happening. We are indeed grateful,” he said.

Other notable dignitaries that graced the occasion included Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, represented by his deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, Seyi Tinubu, former governor of Adamawa state, Jubril Bindow, Emir of Keffi, Emir of Nasarawa and Emir of Zazzau, among other first-class monarchs.
