Keyamo hits Ayu over N1bn saga

Tobi Osindero
Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, has reacted to a claim by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, that the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar asked him to borrow N1bn.

Ayu, while reacting to an allegation levelled against him by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, that he received the aforementioned sum from a presidential aspirant in Lagos, said that Atiku had asked him to borrow the money over the party’s lack of funds.

He stated further that the presidential candidate’s suggestion was rejected, denying that he received N1bn from anyone.

“When we came in, and the party had funding difficulties, the current presidential candidate suggested that the party should take a loan of N1bn from a bank.

“And the owner of that bank was also an influential member of this party. He has left the party now. But when we discussed with him, we discarded the idea”, Ayu explained.

Reacting to Ayu’s explanation via Twitter on Saturday, Keyamo blasted the PDP, accusing them of being hypocrites for criticising President Muhamadu Buhari’s borrowings.

“Nigerians should see the same party that complains about the fact that we borrow in some cases to fund infrastructure.

“They have not even won an election, they are suggesting taking loans to run their party! The problem with the PDP is their hypocrisy that stinks to high heavens,” he tweeted.
