Kuje road project: FCTA to pay N1.1bn compensation to affected property owners

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has announced that the FCT Administration will pay the sum of ₦1.1 billion as compensation to persons, whose property would be affected by the Kuje road dualization project.

Wike made this known after an inspection tour of some on-going projects in Abuja on Tuesday.

He stated that the action is to avoid delay in completion of the Kuje road project.

He said “If I remember vividly, the entire estimate they gave was ₦1.1 billion. And to pay for those whose properties are affected, like some of these buildings you have seen here, down to the community.

“I am going to make it available so that the contractor will not find any excuse for delay.”

Wike explained that he had to visit the site to verify what was sent to him for approval.

“When I got the files for approval, I said it would be proper for me to see for myself the kind of structures which I was going to pay for”, he said.

Speaking on the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, the Minister said says more work is expected from workers of the FCT Administration.

The minister explained that the implementation was in fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to improve the welfare of workers.

“In line with that, we have also adopted the N70,000 minimum wage and approved the payment of the arrears as agreed with the labour union.

“I expect that the workers will also see this as a boost and be more committed for us to achieve the development that is required in the city.

“So, workers should not live like, oh, money has been paid. It means more work is expected from you,” the minister said.
