The Director-General, Media and Publicity, Kano Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has alleged that former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is covertly working for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dawakin Tofa also claimed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had approached President Tinubu over plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the knowledge and consent of Kwankwaso.

The Kano Government spokesman made the claims while speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show amid mounting political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, the alleged political move also had the backing of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

He said the ongoing political engagements reflected wider behind-the-scenes consultations already shaping the country’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.

Dawakin Tofa further alleged that Kwankwaso’s recent political moves had weakened opposition forces and indirectly strengthened Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term.

“Kwankwaso has successfully thrown the opposition into disarray,” he claimed.

The spokesman also argued that former presidential candidate Peter Obi may struggle to gain political acceptance in Kano because of what he described as the state’s conservative political environment.

He linked the claim to ideological differences and sensitivities surrounding separatist agitations in parts of the country.

Dawakin Tofa additionally dismissed claims that five million supporters attended a recent gathering at Kwankwaso’s residence, describing the figure as unrealistic.

According to him, even major public venues in Kano could not accommodate such a crowd.

“Kwankwaso hates Peter Obi, and Peter Obi also hates Kwankwaso,” he alleged.

He maintained that politicians with divergent ideologies and conflicting interests would find it difficult to work together effectively to govern Nigeria.
